What is Cyber Security?

Imagine your house. You lock the doors, secure the windows, and maybe even have a security system to keep it safe. Well, cybersecurity is like doing the same thing for your digital life.

When you use a computer, smartphone, or any device connected to the internet, you're part of a vast, digital world. This world is full of information, from your personal photos and bank details to important company secrets.

Cybersecurity is about protecting this digital world from harm. This includes preventing hackers from stealing your information, disrupting your devices, or even causing damage to online systems.

Think of it like a digital shield. It helps keep your online activities safe and prevents unwanted intruders from entering your digital space.

How Does Cyber Security Apply to Small Businesses?

Just like a small business needs a strong foundation to grow, it also needs a strong digital foundation. Cybersecurity is that foundation.

Even though small businesses might not have the same resources as big corporations, they're still vulnerable to cyber threats. Hackers often target smaller businesses because they might have weaker security measures.

Why is it Important?

  • Protecting Customer Data: If a customer's information is stolen, it can damage your reputation and lead to lost business.
  • Preventing Disruptions: A cyberattack can cripple your operations, leading to financial losses and customer dissatisfaction.
  • Complying with Regulations: Many industries have data privacy regulations that small businesses must follow.
  • Safeguarding Intellectual Property: Your business ideas, designs, and other valuable assets are protected by cybersecurity.

Dorian Balogh

The Lore

My name is Dorian Balogh, and I have been working with computers and electronics for over years. Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for taking apart anything and everything to understand how it works. This curiosity led me into the tech industry, starting with cell phones. After spending some time at a small kiosk, I transitioned to a role as an administrative worker at a small computer repair shop. Unfortunately, this position was short-lived as the shop couldn’t sustain so many employees.

I then sought other opportunities in my field, but times were tough, and I struggled to find work. After relocating to a new city, I secured two jobs—one in security and the other in cell phones. I held these positions for several years, gradually building my knowledge of security and recognizing the vulnerabilities in technology. During this period, massive hacks occurred almost weekly, which deeply concerned me. This realization drove me to explore server work and self-hosting to ensure that if I were ever hacked, I could only blame myself.

As the years went by, I took on various roles, even becoming a regional manager for Samsung’s cell phone department. However, that position didn’t last long, as a devastating software update impacted the entire human race for a couple of years. During this challenging time, my father encouraged me to pursue higher education. I applied to university and was accepted just a week later to study for my bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Fast forward to 2024, and I am still working as a security guard when a friend suggests, “Why don’t you just start your own company?” Always wanting to work for myself, I thought, why not? This brings us to today, where, with five years of server experience and six years of cyber security research and knowledge, along with a burning passion for the right to repair, I present to you CyberConnect—where technology meets security.
